When the lenses of Jamel Shabazz and Amy Arbus captured New York City street life in the 1980s, life seemed just as chaotic as today, yet it moved to a slower rhythm. Pure and raw, individuality reigned. Unburdened by notions of social proof, voices, near and far, shaped this zeitgeist and brought a tangibly creative spirit to New York.
The Tibi Spring 2018 collection nods to the pragmatic psyche of this city, while never bereft of optimism and beauty. Dreamlike pastels, that defined films from the 1950s and ‘60s, drift from lavender, mustard, butter, and soft blue – a palette conceived against a backdrop of urban grit.
Updated fabrications in suiting, sportswear with refined details, detachable elements such as transparent belts finished with horn buckles, encapsulate Tibi’s aptitude in delivering a thoroughly feminine and functional collection.
Never one to abandon our heritage as we celebrate our 20th year, we will also always strive towards a brighter tomorrow—a blank canvas to do with what we please. Imagine a place so happy, so unwritten… you’ve never felt more like yourself.
